ADHD Brain Coral

ADHD Brain Coral is a collection of art born from an encounter with brain coral while snorkeling. When I’m under water I find a level of peace and emotional balance that is often uncommon for me as a person with ADHD. The mesmerizing, inconsistent patterns and undulating lines in the brain coral immediately resonated with me, as if I were peering into my own vibrant mind. In that moment I found acceptance for my beautifully inconsistent, ADHD brain.

These pieces were created through one of a variety of methods including: acrylic mops on gessoed canvas; plaster on cradled board, textured by pulling a cut scraper through it, then gessoed and painted with acrylic paint and acrylic paint markers; board or canvas painted, then drawn on with acrylic paint in a variety of application containers including hair dye applicator, paint pen, graffiti mop, and syringe; acrylic underpainting applied with a brush, acrylic spray paint through a custom stencil on top; and acrylic mop painting underneath with clear, acrylic gel medium on top which was then textured by pulling a cut scraper through it.
