Nest Art Series and Installation
Home. Comfort. Safety.
But, a recently emptied nest is an interesting time, with different connotations. The fledglings are on the ground figuring out their wings. Bird mom and dad come and go from their nearly grown babes, occasionally offering food or instruction. Dangers are everywhere, but the fledglings are so focused on learning to fly that they don't see a threat.
This series was inspired by a robin nest I observed during the Covid pandemic. At the time, my own fledgeling, my college senior, was 100 miles away. It was nerve wrecking to not be able to protect her from this invisible threat
The original “Nest” was an oil on card stock piece created in 2020. It evolved into a series of paintings, and in 2021, “Nest” became an interactive installation at The Sheldon’s Golf the Galleries where it won “People’s Choice”

The Original Nest, created as part of my a Postcard Project
"Nest" originated as an oil on card stock illustration created during a self-directed “Pandemic Postcards” project amid the 2020 Covid pandemic. I drew "Nest" as a reflection on the fledgling robins leaving their nest on my back porch, venturing into the wild, mirroring my concerns for my youngest daughter, who was away at college.
